Single Cask “Alcalde”
Product description
The Bota Única Alcalde is a cask found among the old amontillados that Barbadillo treasures in Bodega La Cilla.
In this space, it coexists with the Reliquias and the unique casks of Los Niños. The group of casks to which it belongs yields an amontillado of remarkable depth and salinity, as expected from the finest oxidative wines of Sanlúcar.
The fact that it is a tonel (large cask), rather than one of the 500-liter butts that make up the class, has given Alcalde greater concentration. We believe that decades of smaller extractions and the very nature of the wood in which the wine has rested have forged this distinct personality.
The cask bears an intriguing inscription: “Dedicado al Alcalde” — “Dedicated to the Mayor” — without specifying which mayor it honors.
This led us, on the day Montserrat Molina and Armando Guerra discovered its wonderful singularity, to find the perfect reason for its bottling: for the first time in history, Sanlúcar de Barrameda has a woman as mayor.
And we never do anything without a meaningful reason.
