In an incomparable setting, at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River next to the Doñana National Park, 26 thoroughbred races are held, considered to be of international tourist interest.
Barbadillo will close this 178th edition with the sponsorship of the Manzanilla Solear Prize, with a presence throughout the event at the start and finish with a large inflatable bottle of Manzanilla Solear marking the finish line.
Bodegas Barbadillo continues to support horse racing in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, throughout its long history as a spectacle of international tourist interest, which has been held since 1845. In this edition, two cycles will be held with a total of 26 races, 13 per cycle, with the presence of the national bet of Loterías del Estado.
More than €200,000 in prize money will be distributed to the participating thoroughbreds who will compete over distances of between 1,400 and 2,000 metres, when the low tide is present on the beaches of the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. This event, which is one of the oldest and most spectacular in Europe, has an overall budget of more than one million euros.
Bodegas Barbadillo will sponsor the Manzanilla Solear Award, which will be disputed over a mile distance for three year old horses and mares, which will put the finishing touch to a new edition of a spectacle that constitutes one of the most beautiful sporting events in the world, with the sunset on the sand of the beach contemplating riders and horses under the setting sun and the Doñana Park in the background.
An unbeatable pairing: Manzanilla Solear and Petaca Chico red tuna.
On the last day of the races, Bodegas Barbadillo will have a VIP box where, in addition to watching the horse races with the thoroughbreds at full speed, you will be able to enjoy a perfect pairing. Just as the jockey and horse “binomial” are credited with a spectacular performance when they win a Grand Prix, the same is true of the “Barbadillo and Petaca Chico binomial” when it comes to tasting a pairing that can rarely be enjoyed. We are talking about the fusion of two gastronomic treasures: the fine, aged Manzanilla Solear combined with Petaca Chico tuna.
Barbadillo, in addition to its Manzanilla Solear, will offer guests in its VIP box its wide range of products, from its renowned Barbadillo Blanco de Albariza, its frizzante Barbadillo Vi, or one of its latest and most appetising innovations for this summer Barbadillo Mixed Rebujito, which has achieved important support and international recognition with the Silver Medal at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC 2023) and a Gold at the International Canned Wine Competition, in California (United States).
Horse racing days are connected to the tidal calendar. The race days must coincide with a good low tide so that the horses can race along the beach with a sufficiently wide shore. During these days, the usual stables, together with others signing up for the first time, will bring more than two hundred thoroughbreds to race on the unique sandy racecourse, when the sea recedes between the beaches of Bajo de Guía and Las Piletas. And here, Barbadillo will be present, for yet another edition, to accompany this spectacle that is unparalleled anywhere else in the world.
