The internationally renowned flamenco guitarist will present her show “Flamencas” as part of the Universo Vi – Pequeño Festival.
Barbadillo is preparing to host one of the most acclaimed artists in contemporary flamenco. Mercedes Luján, recognized for her impressive skill and deep connection to the roots of flamenco, will perform on July 27 in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, hosted by Bodegas Barbadillo.
Mercedes Luján is considered by many to be the most powerful flamenco guitarist in the contemporary scene. Her stage presence is characterized by great confidence, versatility in her technique and style, and a unique sound that evokes the echoes of Morón, Melchor, and Jerez. Critics have praised her ability to fuse tradition and modernity, making each performance a unique and unforgettable experience.
Much of Mercedes’ current work focuses on giving visibility to female instrumentalists. This mission has led her to collaborate in Dubai with the “Firdaus Orchestra by A.R. Rahman,” an exclusively female ensemble. Her latest show, “Flamencas,” features an all-women band, although on this occasion she will be joined by Ané Carrasco on percussion, along with Teresa Hernandez on second guitar and vocals. Her music has led her to be an official nominee for the Grammy Awards in the category of Best World Music Song 2022, with her track “Ahora o Nunca,” recorded live at Solera Flamenca.
The concert on July 27 will be held in the courtyard of El Toro winery, a place full of history where the audience can enjoy the virtuosity of Mercedes Luján. Tickets can be purchased through the official Universo Vi – Pequeño Festival website.
